About the data
Transit Desk answers one practical travel question per page, using a mix of open datasets and live public APIs so the figures stay current.
Where the data comes from
- Plugs, voltage, currency, calling codes, time zones — compiled from open country reference data.
- Exchange rates — European Central Bank reference rates via the Frankfurter API, refreshed through the day.
- Weather — recent multi-year averages from the Open-Meteo climate archive.
- Public holidays — the Nager.Date public-holiday API.
- Distances & flight times — great-circle distance between capitals; flight time is an estimate.
How often it updates
- Exchange rates refresh several times a day.
- Public holidays are re-checked weekly; the "next holiday" on each page is computed live.
- Weather uses multi-year climate normals, so it reflects a typical year rather than a live forecast.
- Times, time differences and distances are computed on every request, so daylight-saving shifts are always current.
